Happy New Year!

Thursday night was a fun stay at home time with Jake. I made some delicious artichoke dip and crackers and fake champagne lol. We played the game Farkle, http://www.farklerules.com/ which is a blast of a game… I totally recommend it. We watched movies and watched the fireworks from our guest bedroom window, which was perfect because I was comfortably warm while watching the big event.
Friday was suppose to be a kick back and relax kind of day that turned into the absolutely crazy day. I woke up early so I could finish the Lost Symbol book by Dan Brown. It was such a good book and if you’ve read it let me know, because I would love to chat about it with someone who has read it. We got it for Dad’s Christmas gift and I think he finished the book in two days… that’s how much he loved it. It references the Mormons twice but it’s very brief and not in a negative light. If you know Professor Langdons character then you understand how he doesn’t believe in religion of any kind or God so he passes off many religious ideas as “magical” or “myth”.
Jake finally woke up and we were off to feed the horses and pick up straw. The family we got straw from have a pig farm and I have never seen such large pigs in my life. They also fight like crazy and the noise they make is defining! Imagine two 400-500 pound pigs dueling it out with each other. They also had the cutest little girls on the farm with their little cowgirl boots and they fell in love with Hera and were chasing her around the whole farm. What great people and so kind to us.
We then headed back to the horses to finish cleaning and to lay down the straw for them. As I was working away in Zelphs pen I had this feeling that Zelph was a little too pumped up. Phil and Keith had been working on fixing a pipe and kept running a wire through the pipe and back out of it and it got all the horses scared and Zelph especially. He decided he was going to run back and forth in his area and buck up as high as he could go. So I’m in his area shoveling and he normally likes to be right next to me and apparently I wasn’t giving him enough attention so he came up and bit me on my back! I screamed and spun around and smacked him in his face. That’s the first time he’s ever done that to me… you can tell he’s getting older and needing me to work with him more. Phil, Jake and Keith all just laughed and laughed at the situation (of course they weren’t the ones to get bit).
So we hurried and packed our stuff up because we were going with Phil and his family Geocaching http://www.geocaching.com/ if you haven’t tried this yet and you have kids – get out there and do it! We had such a great time hiking out to random places and searching under rocks all to find the “buried treasure” lol! It’s a website that lists coordinates and you get your GPS and you go out to the listed coordinate and you read the clue i.e. put the lime in the lava rock. Usually the treasure is something simple like a toy car and some nail polish, but you can imagine how the kids go crazy for it. You then take the prize and replace it with a prize of your own i.e toy frogs and a kaleidoscope. We were out searching for treasure for hours! I got home after 5 and Jake had to leave the fun early because he had work to go to. I went right for bed and slept until Jake got home from work.
I made this soup my Mom introduced me to. If you love mushrooms then you will love this soup! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/cream-of-wild-mushroom-soup-recipe/index.html. Its actually a lot easier than it seems. I think getting all the ingredients was the hardest part of the whole process.

Well Happy New Year everyone!
